Here’s the story I alluded to in the PowerPoint presentation on broadcast news. To me, there is an absolutely essential fact missing from this unfortunate story. Feel free to post your comments.

Teacher in Webster Groves School District dies from COVID-19 complications, district says
Something that seems obviously missing to me is any mention of the preschoolers’ safety. In addition to being sad, many parents will probably be concerned for their kids after finding out about Ms. Juanita’s death. Has her school been in session in the last 2 weeks? When was the last time she interacted with students? Was she self-quarantining before she passed away? These are urgent questions for the families of all Ms. Juanita’s students, and I think the article should have addressed them.

Hi Isabel, That’s it in a nutshell. I don’t even recall hearing or reading that she was a pre-school teacher. It’s been a few days since I watched the story, but that was the thing that was screaming out at me: WHAT school ???? Your points are all well taken.

Is it the specific school that she taught at was not mentioned? They also did not mention when her symptoms started? This would be important for people who had been in contact with her to know if they need to self quarantine. Also it would give the audience an idea of how slowly or quickly the virus can cause death.

They might have updated this story since I posted the link, but I did not recall ever hearing them say in WHICH school she was a teacher. So, yes, you’re right Lauren, that’s a huge oversight for all the reasons you suggest. It’s incomprehensible to me that nobody in the KMOV newsroom caught this.
